Filipino Language Programs
(Fall 2022)
Adult Program
This is a 4-week online program to be held through Zoom, and will be taught by our FCS Language Instructor, Jairus Ramos!
We are offering two different levels of Adult-Level Language Classes:
Level I, for those who have little to no prior knowledge of Tagalog language.
Level II, for those who have moderate prior knowledge of Tagalog language OR have taken any of our previous Adult-Level Language classes.
A self-assessment will be included in the Registration Form for those unsure of which level to sign up for.
Level I will be held every Saturday from October 15 to November 5 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm PST.
Level II will be held every Sunday from October 16 to November 6 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm PST.
Tuition is $100 per student. This fee goes towards the 4-week cost of the teacher, digital copies of each lesson, and proceeds towards Filipino Cultural School. We also offer payment plans and flexibility in payment for those experiencing financial difficulties.
Class Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis with a registration cap. Space is limited and is anticipated to fill up quickly! Registration closes when the capacity is reached or by Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 11:59 pm PST, whichever occurs first.

Youth Program
This is an 8-week online program to be held through Zoom, with both sections taught by our FCS Instructor, Ate Francelle Esteban! We are offering two separate classes based on age group: Early Elementary (Kindergarten to 2nd Grade) and Late Elementary (3rd to 5th Grade).
Class sessions will be every Saturday from October 15 to December 10 (except November 26), with Culmination on Saturday, December 17.
Early Elementary (Kindergarten to 2nd grade) section will be 9:00 am to 10:00 am PST
Late Elementary (3rd to 5th Grade) section will be 10:15 to 11:15 am PST
Tuition for this 8-week program is $200 per student (+$50 for each additional child in the household). This fee goes towards the 8-week cost of the teacher, digital copies of each lesson, and proceeds towards Filipino Cultural School. We also offer payment plans and flexibility in payment for those experiencing financial difficulties.

youth program (K-12)
This is an 8-week online program to be held through Zoom, and will be taught by our FCS Language Instructors. Francelle Esteban and Mizzy Hussain! We are offering two separate classes based on age group: Elementary (K-5th Grade) and Middle/High School (6-12th Grade).

This is an 5-week online program to be held through Zoom, and will be taught by our community teacher, Jairus Ramos!
We are offering two different levels of Adult-Level Language Classes:
Level I, for those who have little to no prior knowledge of Tagalog language.
Level II, for those who have moderate prior knowledge of Tagalog language OR have taken any of our previous Adult-Level Language classes.
Both classes will be covering a variety of topics including Filipino vocabulary and grammar, as well as cultural topics like s/heroes in the community, family history, Undas, and and Filipino-American History Month.

Digital Halo-Halo (for K-12 Youth)
This class offers a look at Filipino and Filipino-American history through various media including dance, music, fine arts, literature, culinary arts, film, photography, video games, and more.
This is a 10-week course conducted through Zoom and with two separate classes based on age group: Elementary (K-4th Grade) and Middle/High School (5-12th Grade).
This class is taught by Polly Dela Rosa, cultural educator for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Program Goals include:
Identifying different periods of Philippine and Filipinx-American history.
Analyzing primary resources of Filipino oral tradition, art, literature, photography, film, folk dances, and music within the context of each period of Philippine history.
Discussing and relating aspects of Filipino arts and culture to the Filipino-American experience.
Practicing individual and collective art-making.
Socializing during a time of separation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adult-Level Language Classes
These are 8-week courses, conducted through Zoom. We are offering two-levels of Adult Level Language classes this summer: Level I and Level II.
Classes will be led by Jairus Ramos, who has studied Filipino/Tagalog language at CSULB and University of Wisconsin-Madison through the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI).
Level I will cover introductions, greetings, food, travel, and family in Filipino/Tagalog while reflecting on Filipinx identity and community. At the end of the session, students will share a short presentation about themselves and their family.
Level II will cover describing people, surroundings, and feelings in relation to Filipinx culture, community, and identity. At the end of the session, students will share a short presentation about an important item or keepsake, and why that item is important to them.
