Our 2026 Summer Program
Every summer, we explore a variety of different classes related to Philippine culture!

Language
Language is an important part of every culture and music helps making learning language easier and more enjoyable!
In our language class, our students will learn the fundamentals of speaking and understanding Filipino (the national language of the Philippines based on Tagalog).
Movement
Dance is significant in distinguishing the aesthetic values of a culture. Through movement and dress, dancers are able to express stories and parts of culture that are significant to different groups of people.
In our highly loved dance class, our students will learn the fundamentals of dance as a form of expression through the exploration of Philippine folk dances and the roles they play in Philippine history and culture.
Last Summer, the Tangkay student group had the privilege to learn and practice the Philippine martial arts of Kali with Kuya Eli! It was such a popular class; we will continue to offer it again this upcoming Summer.
Halo-Halo
“Halo-halo” is a popular dessert unique to the people of the Philippines, consisting of a mix of different ingredients that most people wouldn’t seem to go well together (e.g. shaved ice, jelly, rice flakes, red beans, etc.), but actually do!
In our “halo-halo” class, students explored a mix of different subjects - like the many ingredients in a halo-halo - related to Philippine culture, including history, children’s stories, mythology, and more!
Student Groups
In our summer program, all students are placed into different groups based on their age to allow for children of similar ages to receive the appropriate level of education.
These groups are named after the developmental stages of a plant and act as an homage to the Sampaguita Women’s Circle - the organization that founded the roots of FCS. (See what we did there?) Additionally, these names also reflect the personal growth of the students and the development of returning students through our program year-to-year.
(Note: The number of student groups and ages in each age group may differ year to year, depending on the demographics of the students who are enrolled in the program.)

12-15 years old
Those ages 16+ are welcome to still be involved as volunteers!
(Service hours are available for high school students who apply to volunteer with FCS)

Family System
As a way to promote a sense of community and interaction among the different age groups in our summer program, students and volunteers are also placed into “families” that come together to through a variety of games that are popular in the Philippines!
